GUJRAT: Police have registered a case against seven people including two deceased members of an outlawed sectarian outfit for attacking the Gotriala police check post in Kharian.

The attack led to an encounter in which two alleged militants were killed.

The deceased were buried on Thursday after an autopsy at the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital. The body of Qari Mumtaz of Sara-i-Alamgir was handed over to his family, while the other alleged militant could not be identified and his body was handed over to the Kharian Tehsil Municipal Administration that buried it temporarily.

Police said the unidentified militant seemed to be a resident of Mohmand Agency of Fata. Two alleged terrorists were killed and two policemen were injured in an encounter in the Gulliana police jurisdiction late on Wednesday night after a group of militants attacked a police picket.

Gujrat District Police Officer Rai Zameerul Haq told Dawn that police had sent the samples of the unidentified terrorist for the DNA test to Lahore and hopefully the body would be identified in the next couple of days. He said search for absconders was going on.
