The exact figures of casualties on the Indian side are not yet known but according to Sadae Kashmir Radio Mujahids inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and blasted ammunition depots.

The Radio said the attack was launched in such a way that Indians were taken by surprise and could not put up any resistance. As the Mujahids opened fire Indian troops tried to run away in utter confusion but before they could escape a huge number of them had become the target of freedom fighters’ bullets. In Uri sector Mujahids had an encounter with Indian troops. Fifteen Indian soldiers were killed and 12 wounded as the troops were trying to escape.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Rawalpindi], Pir Sahib of Deval Sharif, who led the prayers for the Kashmir freedom fighters today [Aug 27] at the Jamia Mosque, Faizabad, expressed the belief that Kashmir would soon be liberated from the Indian yoke. Pir Sahib said the day was not far off when the Kashmiri Mujahids would succeed in their heroic freedom struggle and the banner of Islam would fly over Srinagar.

He warned the occupation forces in held Kashmir that the Muslims of Kashmir were not alone in their freedom struggle. One hundred million Muslims of Pakistan in particular and a crore Muslims of the world in general were at their back. The people of Pakistan, he said, would not confine their sympathies to offering of prayers alone for the Kashmiri freedom fighters. Every one of them would join them in ‘Jehad’ when a call came the Pir Sahib said.
