WHAT are the terms and conditions for the appointment of pro-vice chancellors at the University of Sindh?

This is to point out that the Sindh government and the Sindh governor have been appointing pro-vice chancellors without declaring and making public the pre-determined terms and conditions for such appointments

According to Section 14-A (1) of the University of Sindh Act 1972 as amended under the Sindh Universities Laws (Amendment) Act 2013: “The pro-vice chancellor shall be appointed by the chancellor on the recommendation of the government for the main campus or for the additional campus, if any, or for both the campuses jointly or separately on such terms and conditions and for such period not exceeding four years at a time as the chancellor may determine.”

The fact is that the chancellor has neither determined the terms and conditions for the appointment of pro-vice chancellors nor have such terms and conditions been notified by the Sindh government. Pro-vice chancellors are being appointed without any advertisement and without any indication of the criteria required.

The non-determination of the terms and conditions for the post of the pro-vice chancellor, which is a BPS-22 position, has paved the way for political unfair practices.

In the best interest of the university, the government of Sindh and the chancellor of the University of Sindh need to formalise/legalise the process of the appointment of pro-vice chancellors.
