KARACHI: Security arrangements for Yaum-i-Ali were reviewed at a meeting, which was chaired by Rangers DG Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, held at the Rangers Headquarters on Monday.

Attended by the inspector-general of police, Sindh, the Karachi police chief and senior officers of the law-enforcement and intelligence agencies, the meeting gave final shape to the arrangements for Yaum-i-Ali. It was decided that the paramilitary force and the police would remain alert on the occasion.

The Rangers and police started conducting a random spot check on vehicles in all major cities of the province, while heavy deployment of the Rangers and police will be made along the route of the main procession of Yaum-i-Ali in Karachi.

The meeting also decided that aerial monitoring of the procession would be carried out.

Routes leading to the processions will be sealed. With the help of sniffer dogs, all the procession routes will be checked. The Rangers and police officials will be deployed on the rooftop of the highrise buildings.

The Rangers and police will enhance patrolling on the National Highway and the Indus Highway. Besides, checking at inter-provincial posts will be enhanced to foil nefarious designs of miscreants.

According to the Rangers spokesperson, religious scholars and people in general have been requested to promote harmony and brotherhood and extend help to the law enforcers in maintaining law and order on the occasion of Yaum-i-Ali.
