Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris retires from cricket

LONDON: Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris has retired from all forms of cricket after being ruled out of the Ashes series against England with a knee injury.
The 35-year-old Harris, who underwent surgery on his right knee last year, made the retirement announcement on Saturday.
It came after he continued to experience knee soreness following the first tour match in Kent last week and after receiving the results of medical scans. Harris said: “Given the news I received yesterday, and after talking it over with my family, I know now is the right is the time to step away from cricket.”
The first Ashes test starts on Wednesday in Cardiff.

This great game of cricket is severely in favour of batsmen. We have seen in the past some good bowlers come unruffled by an injury. Maybe in countries like Australia, South Africa and England its less likely to happen because of good regimes of fitness by their board and discipline. But in Pakistan its probably less likely. Players have to look after themselves here. A career which is more than ten years for a genuine fast bowler is something to be really proud of. Then add to that being a diabetic and taking injections before a game. Some of the reasons why Wasim Akram was the greatest pace bowler who played this game.
