Hema Malini becomes the second celebrity in recent times to come under fire for irresponsible behaviour after a car accident

On July 2, Bollywood actress and politician Hema Malini was in a car accident, which killed a four-year-old girl.

The incident was heavily covered by the press, but many believe that undue coverage was given to Malini's injuries and subsequent plastic surgery at a private hospital. People are incensed that the other party's treatment was delayed: they were taken to a government institution after Malini had been whisked away to the private hospital. According to the NDTV, the deceased girl's father claims that his daughter could have been saved had she been taken to the hospital with Malini.

Even though Malini has been discharged from the hospital, she has yet to inquire about the well-being of the other party, which is being perceived as an added offense, reports The Hindu.

People have taken to Twitter to express their outrage, some going as far as to dub her as the new Salman Khan.

People are furious at Malini's apparent callousness...

...and call for her resignation as BJP MP:

Others are decrying the hypocrisy of the situation:

Some understand that the injured actress wasn't in the position to help, but point fingers at her entourage:

And then there were some who were speculating about the car accident itself...

Who was really driving, some wondered...

..and whose fault was the accident?

It boils down to prevention. Malini's Mercedes shouldn't have been speeding in the first place.
