LAKKI MARWAT: Two people, including a proclaimed offender, were killed in a clash between two groups in Azerkhel village of Darra Pezu town here on Thursday.

Officials of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station said that both the groups exchanged firing over a minor dispute wherein Mohammad Zahid from one side and a proclaimed offender, identified as Ameer Nawaz, from the other side were killed. They said that Nawaz was wanted by the area police in cases of murder and attempted murder.

Police have registered two separate cases against the accused person, including Farmanullah, Mohammad Ayaz, Irfanullah and Shah Nawaz from one side, and Najibullah, Naqeebullah, Zahid and Zarkaim from the other side. Sources said that doctors at the Titterkhel health facility were not present on duty when the bodies were taken there for medico-legal formalities. The relatives waited for hours and following intervention by the deputy commissioner the doctor and paramedics reached the hospital for conducting the postmortem.

Meanwhile, the local administration finalised arrangements for re-polling on eight polling stations of union councils of Lakki Marwat district scheduled to be held on July 5.

In this regard, a meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Ihsanullah Khan discussed matters to ensure foolproof security and maintain law and order situation during the re-polling. District election commissioner Noorza Ali Shah, assistant commissioner Sher Alam Khan, returning officers and other relevant officials were present in the meeting.

The deputy commissioner reiterated that all-out efforts would be made to ensure transparent, impartial and peaceful conduct of re-polling in the district. He asked the officials concerned to arrange chairs, tents and power generators at the polling stations. He also directed the returning officers to respond quickly to the polling personnel in case of emergency on the polling day and ensure effective surveillance of the polling stations under their jurisdiction.
