Afghanistan summons Pak envoy over border clash

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan summoned on Thursday Pakistan’s ambassador over a border clash prompted by construction of a gate by Pakistan at the transit point.

Ambassador Abrar Hussain was summoned over a clash on Tuesday in which an Afghan guard was killed after Pakistani troops retaliated to Afghan firing at the under-construction gate in Angoor Adda bordering Afghanistan. Two Pakistani troops were injured in the clash.

Afghanistan claims that the construction activity was in violation of the mutual understandings and its forces were authorised to take action for preventing such activity.

Afghan deputy foreign minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai told Ambassador Hussain that the violation by Pakistan was against international and diplomatic norms. He warned that continued work on the gate could seriously harm ties.

Pakistan Military Spokesman Maj Gen Asim Bajwa insisted that construction was being undertaken on the Pakistani side and hence did not constitute a violation.

A gate is being constructed on Pakistani side of border to regulate the movement of people crossing border. What does Afghan government exactly want from Pakistan?

Afghanis are most unthankful people in the world. They have Pakistani passports, Pakistani identity cards, live in Pakistan, work in Pakistan and abuse Pakistan. I have stopped going to Afghani owned shops i would never give them business again. Pakistan government should think hard on sending all decades long afghani settled in pakistan without proper papers while our own people are dying.

Pakistan wants to build peace and partnership with Kabul but can Afghanistan change its policies of the past to establish a lasting peace with Pakistan? 1) Afghanistan refused to recognize Pakistan after it's independence, and openly armed the youngest son of Khan of Kalat to revolt against Pakistan in the year 1947. This was after the declaration by Khan, in which Balochistan formally acceded to Pakistan which was ratified by all international powers. 2) In 1948 Afghanistan voted against Pakistan at the UN. This was illegal because Pakistan was a legitimate successor of British Empire according to Vienna convention on succession of states. Afghanistan was also the only Muslim country in the world to vote against Pakistan's membership.

Construction on Pakistani side? Have we settled the issue of Border viz-a-viz Durand-line? There is a need to create an atmosphere of better understanding with Afghan government and people to initiate actions necessary to lay the foundation of warm relations between the two countries that both need. Pakistan government should also try to address the genuine apprehensions of Afghan brethre

Pakistan need to sort this Afghan problem once and for all. The necessities and cajoling is simply not working and wasting our nation time and resources. The pro Indian northern alliance and farsawani lot who has been entrenched in Afghan power circles for so long are simply not going to become angels overnight as far as Pakistan is concern. Treat them as to who they truely are, the bitter enemies of Pakistan and its people.

Afghans of Dari speaking background are extremely biased and will always be due to their lack of Muslim identity and also their ignorant liberal mindsets. They don't believe in Ummah like we do. I have seen and experienced it first hand. Even within USA and western countries once they get their freedom they show their true colors towards Pakistanis. Us Pakistanis need to be aware of such challenges and stop being sheepish about it and stop living that pipe dream of Muslim Ummah. Arabs, Iranis, afghanis, none but some Turks and Malaysian etc believe in it or Muslims in the west believe in it.
