Gilani’s son no more a graduate

LAHORE: The Punjab University Syndicate on Saturday quashed the bachelor’s degree of Abdul Qadir Gilani, the eldest son of former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani, on charges of impersonation.

Appearing in the BA examination 2005-6, Abdul Qadir was first accused of causing disturbance in the examination hall after being caught using unfair means. An unfair means case was registered against him but a committee constituted by then VC Arshad Mahmood exonerated him of the charge.

Meanwhile, the ACE also started a probe into the case after the matter was referred to it by the FIA. Investigation came to a halt after the transfer of a deputy director (Adm) leading the two-member inquiry team.

The case was re-opened and the PU initiated a de novo inquiry into the matter. The Syndicate decided with a majority vote that the BA degree of Abdul Qadir be quashed.

This is only a symbolic gesture which would have been enjoyed crediability only if such a decision had been made in due time in PPP regime. Secondly, this is the indictment of our collective consciousness. The people in Mr. Gilani's constituency will continue to vote him in power. For them, education does not matter, nor does the honesty in dealings. This is an irony that we want accountable governments without sacrificing our narrow, short-term interests. Reliable institutions cannot take develop and take root without the necessary sacrifices of personal interest.

It seems all elite and rich people in Pakistan are bad and all poor and working class people are noble. I condemn if son of former PM has done it. But in case, this will be overturned in the court then what next... Why not same syndicate decides when his father was PM. I am sure, if current PM will be gone, they will do the same with his family too. This is what we don in our land.

I remember when Angelina Jolie was in Pakistan to help poor people after the floods - and PM Gilani's son booked an entire PIA airplane for himself from Multan to Islamabad to take some pictures with her. No need to say she was extremely disappointed by the way of the ruling class while people were in extreme distress only km's away.

Brothers and Sisters, hold your breath, this is just the tip of the iceburg ! How does any body know that how many people in the Pakistan govt are fake degree holders , This number according to some estimates is higher than 50% and that includes the Head of the departments and the head of the ministries , any body wonder why our beloved Country is not moving forward ? as a matter of fact not moving at all ! Is any body listening , does any body care ,People ! We need to wake up and face the music !
