Named Mian Iftikhar in FIR under pressure, says slain PTI youth's father

PESHAWAR: The father of deceased Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist Habibullah said in court on Monday that he was pressured into registering a case against Awami National Party (ANP) central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain for the murder of his son.

During the hearing, the victim's father Sher Alam said neither the ANP leader, nor his guards, were involved in the murder of his son, and that he had been pressured into registering an First Information Report against Mian Iftikhar by "enraged protesters" during a clash between ANP and PTI activists.

"People put pressure on me. Neither Mian Iftikhar nor his guards murdered my son," he told Nowshera Judicial Magistrate Sheraz Tariq, adding that he was overcome by emotion at the time.

Accused Mian Iftikhar in court said he "could never think of killing anyone".

"It would have been like killing my own son," he said. He also said he would do his best to bring Habibullah's murderer to justice.

The court ordered a judicial lockup for Mian Iftikhar following the hearing. The ANP leader will remain in jail until he is granted bail.

A bail hearing will take place tomorrow.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain was arrested on Sunday after the killing of a PTI activist in the Pabbi area of KP's Nowshera district. The killing took place following a clash between ANP and PTI activists near his Pabbi residence on Saturday night after the announcement of the area's results of the local government polls held the same day.

The PTI activist died of gunshot wounds sustained during the clash. A case was registered against the veteran ANP leader and his guards on various charges including murder and attempted murder over the complaint of the deceased's father.

Imran Khan during a press conference on Sunday said that Mian Iftikhar’s arrest was not politically motivated.

The PTI chairman said the KP police was not under political influence, and that no one in the provincial government had ordered Mian Iftikhar’s arrest.

Khan said the police had acted on its own in accordance with the law, and “whatever their investigation concludes, we will accept that.”

Now, Zardari, NS and ANP should get a clear message that it was not politically motivated. We need transparent system and transparent inquiries. If a big shot is arrested for the sake of inquiry or on the complaint of agreived; please don't make a mess. Nobody is above the law and nobody should be. It is okay to investigate and arrest the former minister upon ordinary citizen's complain.

Great job kp police. One has to appreciate the overall environment-compare to armed militias/guards sorrounding politicians in Sindh. It was due process. FIR then arrest then court hearing and hopefully bail and aquittal very soon. I am happy!

Kudos to KPK police. The investigations must be done professionally and the killer identified and punished. Mian Iftikhar and the father of the PTI activist as well as the court in KPK are being honest. KPK has a bright future if this case is done fairly and transparently.

Don't the police have any responsibility to ensure that there is some truth behind the complainant's story? Surely they must. If this is not political victimization, then what is? Imagine someone in the crowd was shot dead by a PTI guy. Would they have arrested Imran Khan or Parvez Khattak in the same manner as they arrestd Mian Iftikhar, who is so much more respectable than these two? Open your eyes PTI supporters. Recognize the difference between what they say and what they do - can't you?

if the father accepts that he was pressured into nominating the anp leader in the fir and that he had nothing to do with the murder of his son then why did court send mian iftikhar into lockup. I would think the court would have taken away the case against mian iftikhar after that admission. Could someone explain how that works as I am not familiar with our law in this regard.

In many cases it happened in Punjab during protest pti worker died and his brother claimed that rana sanaullah is involved but no one single point passion to arrest them but I ask the question to murdered's father when police was arresting on that time where they were if its wrong action and police claiming that murder's father point out ex minister name so they release fir on media other wise its big question to kpk police that.Are they politicies or not.In last all political leader condemne this action so I want to say Doob Maro that u favouring those who involved in murder case.

@Irfan M My dear Irfan M the Penal code is same in India and Pakistan and once an FIR is registered, now it is not Accused vs Father of the slain young man rather it is Mr Iftikhar Hussain vs State as such the accused can not be released immediately, the police will investigate and submit its report to the Judicial Magistrate and he will decide the case that is why he has been sent to jail.

I think Mian Iftikhar is a nice guy and he was not involved in this incident that said the father of deceased did registered complained against him in FIR on which police acted. In comparison in Punjab, it's nearly impossible for ordinary citizen to register FIR against such notable personality let alone to have him arrested.

One way or the other. PTI and IK stand vindicated. It was not politically motivated. Notwithstanding anything said above it gives a feeling that the father of slain PTI activist got to his emotions and environment. One question remains, who will give justice to the aggrieved?

@Khuram Nisar People can be arrested for probable cause, not just complaints. That would be mob rule, not rule of law. Imagine if people could be arrested simply for complaints and accusations - society would collapse. But this misconception of "justice" is why blasphemy law is in place - people think a mere accusation or complaint is enough for the law to intervene.

Justice is served not only when the man is released, but also when the people who pressured this father to file an FIR are also brought to court for false accusations. The father himself must also be investigated for falsely accusing this politician.
