KARACHI: Two workers of Sindh’s ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) were shot dead in Malir on Friday evening in a suspected targeted attack, according to police and party officials.
They added that the victims, identified as Mohammed Sharif Lashari, 45, and Anwar Bhutto, 30, were shot at and wounded critically near Bakra Piri are of Malir.
The critically wounded men were rushed to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said Dr. Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency department of JPMC.
“Sharif Lashari was secretary information of PPP Malir City Area-127 while Anwar Bhutto was also an active party worker,” said the PPP Karachi division spokesperson, Latif Mughal.
Law enforcement agencies have been actively seeking to rid Karachi — Pakistan’s commercial hub— of terrorism and violence via operations in the city’s troubled areas for well over a year now.
Both police and Rangers have raided plenty of areas and have arrested thousands of suspects and criminals to ensure peace in the city, which has been hit by a wave of law and order problems.
