TOBA TEK SINGH: A robber was killed while three villagers were injured in an encounter involving villagers and police near Pirmahal.

According to Arrouti police, three robbers reached Chak Dohraabad near Sindhillianwali but they were confronted by villagers who forced them to run away and take shelter in a sugarcane field. When villagers followed the robbers in the field, they opened fire and injured three villagers.

Police reached there and they called the Elite Force as well. An encounter started with firing from both sides. When the firing stopped, police found the body of a robber while two of his accomplices had fled away. The injured farmers, identified as Babar, Ijaz and Asif, were shifted to the district headquarters hospital where condition of Ijaz was stated to be critical. The killed robber could not be identified until filing of this report.

VACCINATION: More than 5,000 pregnant women had been vaccinated against tetanus by the teams of expanded immunization programme (EPI) in the district during a vaccination drive.

This was stated by EPI officials in a meeting held under the chairmanship of District Coordination Officer (DCO) Waqas Alam on Thursday.

The DCO said the EPI vaccination campaign against epidemic diseases was in progress in 29 selected union councils. He said no polio case was detected in the district during current year.

TERMINATED: Seven government schoolteachers in the district have been terminated from service for absence from duty while 43 of teachers have been fined over absenteeism.

This was stated by District Monitoring Officer Asif Dogar in a meeting. He said 1,207 schools had been inspected by the monitoring teams.
