SARGODHA: The University of Sargodha surged past the Azad Kashmir University of Muzaffarabad, in a one-sided regional round encounter of the Red Bull Campus Cricket 2015.

Batting first, the team from Muzaffarabad struggled to get going at the Comsats Ground, Islamabad pitch. Oopening batsman Fayyaz gave some impetus to the innings with a quick-fire 37 off only 15 balls, but after his dismissal the innings folded up.

Waqas scored 24 while Usman made a 22-run contribution but the two could only guide their team to a below par 122 as the innings finished in 15 overs. Saqlain bowled beautifully taking five wickets in his four overs spell.

The University of Sargodha batsmen made light work of the small chase by attacking the opposition from the outset. Opener Faheem blazed his way to 52-runs off only 27 balls. Waqas was also in fine form, scoring 32 off only 17 balls. The chase was completed in 10.2 overs only; Saqlain was named the man-of-the-match for his tidy spell.

In the second match of the day played at the same venue, Abdul Wali Khan University Nowshera romped home to a six-wicket victory against Peshawar’s Islamia College. Batting first, the team from Peshawar failed to post a sizeable score. Faizullah (43) and Basit (36) were the only two batsmen to make a significant contribution in the 121-run total accumulated in 19.2 overs.

Yasir was the best bowler on show claiming four wickets in a fine bowling spell. The chase was an easy won for the victorious team as they completed the straightforward task in 15 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Jawad scored 50 while Qaiser Khan held the innings together with a patient 38 ball 34 run knock punctuated with two fours and one six. Yasir’s bowling burst earned him the man-of-the-match award.
