BAHAWALPUR: The Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, one of the known institutions in Punjab, has been facing faculty shortage for long.

There are 22 vacant posts of professors, 17 of associate professors and 27 of assistant professors. All the four regular and sanctioned posts of professors are vacant in medicine.

The QAMC departments of forensic medicine and pharmacology have two vacant posts each and anatomy, biochemistry and community medicines one each. The pathology department has two professors against the sanctioned strength of four.

In surgery, the college is lucky to have three professors though the fourth sanctioned post is vacant. The Paediatric surgery has two professors Prof Dr Khwaja Haroon Khurshid Pasha (principal) and Prof Muhammad Zubair (who is drawing pay against the vacant post of professor of pharmocology).

The college is without professor in anaesthesia -- a department where two regular posts are vacant. It also faces shortage of professors in cardiology, ENT, and TB & Chest departments. The departments of radiology (diagnostic), radiology (therapeutics) and plastic surgery are without professors.

QAMC Principal Prof Dr Khwaja Haroon Pasha confirmed that the college was running short of teaching staff despite requests to the government to fill the posts.
