PESHAWAR: The Gandhara Hindko Board, a literary, cultural and social welfare organisation, took out a rally at Qissa Khwani Bazaar on Thursday to remember scores of people, who died when the British troops opened firing on the freedom-loving citizens in Peshawar on April 23, 1930.

Haleem Jan Sethi, chief organiser of the board, led the rally that started from Misgaran Bazaar.

Holding a large banner and raising slogans, the participants of the rally walked up to the two historic monuments erected in the memory of the martyrs at Chowk Shaheedan or the Martyrs Chowk.

They placed floral wreaths on the memorials and offered Fateha for the departed souls.

They highlighted the sacrifices of the people, who laid down their lives resisting the British colonial rule.

Mr Sethi said that April 23, 1930 incident was an important part of the Independence Movement.
