LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department decided on Monday to conditionally promote to the next grade all students who appeared in grades V and VIII examinations.

Both examinations were conducted by the Punjab Examination Commission and the results were announced on March 31.

According to a notification addressed primarily to the PEC, the School Education Department announced that all students having passed both examinations with at least 33pc marks would be declared pass. Students securing 25pc marks in each subject would be promoted to the next grades.

Grade V students obtaining at least 33pc marks in three subjects and Grade VIII candidates declared successful in four subjects with the same percentage would be provisionally promoted to the next grades. Such students will have to pass all subjects in which they could not get through in the exams to be arranged by head teachers of their schools during summer vacation.
