LAHORE: The public-private partnership project of LDA City has been challenged in the Lahore High Court for being unlawful.

Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) Chairman Advocate Azhar Siddique assailed the project through a writ petition and also challenged the jurisdiction of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to launch such projects.

The petitioner says that prima facie the project is an outcome of urbanisation and extension of Metropolitan City of Lahore. He says such unplanned expansion is meant for making money and against the principle of urbanisation.

He states that until and unless 80 per cent of the existing projects are not occupied for residential purposes or commercialisation, a complete ban should be imposed on execution of such schemes in order to save agricultural properties.

Mr Siddique says the approval of environmental impact assessment (EIA) has also not been obtained for the project.
