Grenade attack in Karachi's Bolton Market leaves three injured

KARACHI: A grenade attack in Karachi's Bolton Market on MA Jinnah Road on Saturday left three people injured.

Two motorcyclists attacked a shop in Bolton Market with a grenade which exploded with a loud blast. The three injured people were moved to Civil Hospital with the help of people in the vicinity.

Fear gripped the locality and surrounding shops were shut down as police collected evidence from the scene of the incident and started investigation.

Last month, a school in North Nazimabad also came under a grenade attack when unknown motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at the school near KDA roundabout.

The attackers also dropped a 'threat letter' in the school premises before escaping from the scene. A day before this attack, a similar incident took place when unidentified attackers hurled a grenade at a mosque in Karachi's Orangi Town area.

Terrorists in Karachi have reorganized themselves. They have formed new safe-houses and found loopholes in LEAs intelligence network. What LEAs supposed to do is to revisit their intelligence tactics and launch a new massive crackdown on them. There is no room for complacency on the part of intelligence agencies. You will have to fight this war with similar intensity for at least next five years. Keep the pressure on Pakistan LEAs. Keep them on the run. Run them, don't let them have a foothold. When catch them, eliminate them mercilessly. Don't let them go through bogus civil judicial system that help them go Scott free even after committing heinous crimes.

Target killing of Dawn's Marketing Director, Vice Principal of College, Killing of SP Police and now grenade attack are not signs of peaceful KHI as boldly claimed by PM Nawaz Sharif at a gathering a few days ago. He even had the cheek to ask attendees to phone their relatives who he said will confirm his statement. Confirms how far away he lives from reality and doesn't have a clue of the situation in his provinces.

Where they get all these grenades? We have to curb the source of weapons first. A tight control of motorcyclists can be another promising move. This would create a lot of problems for common people, but the grenade attacks are a bigger problem.

Grenades should not be handled by the public, and fingerprints should be taken before the evidence is compromised. How is it that so many of these criminals are getting access to such munitions?? Don't these grenades have some sort of traceable serial code which could be examined and traced to its source if they haven't been fully destroyed after such attacks?

The hand grenade is a favorite weapon of some infantry soldiers, especially recon and scouts, because it is difficult to know the direction it came from when thrown high. These attackers would appear to be young and reckless. This particular shop probably refused to pay it's extortion money. Pass a law that simple possession of a hand grenade will carry a ten year prison sentence. Lock them up before they hurt people, not afterwards.
