ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has decided to set up joint verification committees (JVCs) at the sub-divisional level for verification of doubtful or suspect cases of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
The decision reached at a meeting presided over by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday aims to prevent the CNICs from being issued to aliens and illegal migrants on the basis of bogus documents.
The ministry decided that in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the JVCs would be consisted of representatives from the Intelligence Bureau, Inter-Services Intelligence and Special Branch while in Balochistan these would comprise the assistant commissioner concerned and representatives of the IB, ISI, Military Intelligence and Special Branch.
A spokesman for the National Database and Registration Authority said Nadra would refer doubtful and suspect registration cases to the JVCs concerned. “The JVCs are bound to submit their report within 15 days after receiving such cases from Nadra,” the spokesman said.
