HYDERABAD: Arrangements for the 763rd Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar at the shrine of the great Sufi saint in Sehwan Sharif were discussed at a meeting chaired by Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner Sohail Adeeb Bachani on Friday.

The Urs celebrations will start on the 18th of Sha’ban.

The meeting was attended by representatives of police, revenue, auqaf, local government, culture, education, telecommunication, highways, irrigation, civil defence and other departments.

The DC stressed the need for ensuring availability of water to thousands of visitors expected to participate in the celebrations, which would continue for several days. He also called for close coordination among all the departments concerned to avoid mismanagement at any stage.

He observed that security was an important component of the arrangements, and said that the celebrations were being organised on a large scale and modern lines, all out efforts should be made to ensure peace and discipline.

The meeting was told that national literary conference, sughar’s kutchehry, musical night and malakhro would be the main features of the event. It was also stated that proper security would be maintained at the entry/exit points of Sehwan Sharif as part of a foolproof security plan to be put in place during the celebrations. CCTV and walk through gates would be installed while police and Rangers personnel would be deployed to maintain peace.
