KARAK: The residents of Kurd Sharif and Shownaki Deta areas on Sunday blocked the Kurd-Mianwali road in protest against shortage of teachers in the local boys middle school.

The protesters were led by former union council nazim Ikhtiar Rehman, school’s parent-teacher council chairman Amanullah and its member Habibullah. They also demanded upgradation of the school to high level.

The protesters said the lone middle school was established in the remote area in 1991, but it had been facing shortage of teachers ever since.

They complained that the school was being run by four teachers, a drawing master, an Arabic teacher, a physical education teacher and a theology teacher. The protesters regretted that the post of secondary school teacher, who worked as headmaster, and two posts of certificate teachers remained vacant since long.

The speakers said that they had put their children out of the middle school and admitted them to schools in Mianwali district of Punjab. They regretted they had approached the high ups of education department time and time again, but to no avail.

They demanded of the education department to provide teachers to the school to save the precious time of students. The elders also demanded to expedite work on the under construction building of the girls primary school.

LOADSHEDDING: Power remained suspended for over 24 hours in parts of the district due to unknown reasons on Sunday.

Apart from routine loadshedding, the Pesco observed over 24 hours power outages in Chountra and parts of Takht-i-Nusrati and Banda Daud Shah tehsils. The prolonged power cuts created severe shortage of drinking water in the areas.
