Reham asks Altaf to donate presents to Shaukat Khanum

PESHAWAR: "State children, not street children," were the words stressed upon by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's wife Reham Khan as she addressed a ceremony called for International Day for Street Children on Sunday.
Along with laying emphasis on the need to protect street children in Pakistan, Reham addressed Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain's offer to gift her a gold jewelry set and Imran a shalwar kameez suit on her maiden visit to Karachi on Thursday.

"I request Altaf Bhai...if he really wants to gift something, he should instead donate it to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and for the welfare of street children," Reham said, talking to the media.
"Why would I need jewelry? PTI supporters are my jewels."
She further said that, "God has given me whatever was meant for me".
A lamenting Reham appeared critical of the disregard among the Pakistani nation pertaining to street children.
Reham said being an Islamic Republic, it is was the utmost responsibility of the Pakistani people, especially those belonging to the educated class, to play their part in protecting street children.
"We don't let our children out the gate alone, yet we see these children wandering on streets," she said.
She further stressed that it was not solely the government's responsibility to better the lives of street children.
"How can you sleep at night knowing a child between the age of eight and 10 is out on the road?," she rued.

She is absolutely right in her thinking about MQM's gifts. She is also right in saying that the government is not the sole responsible for bettering lives. It is the responsibility of the entire nation. The nation, as a whole, can bring social change. This is indeed a social problem and we must play our part in eradicating it.

200% perfect Reham. Altaf Bhai would never reject it as what he wanted was to just Give it to her, no matter whatever she does with it. Now if she is willing to use that for a much much better purpose, AB should be more than happy for it.
Secondly! someone suggesting here in comments that would Imran donate Bani Gala..... Brother, Bani Gala is Imran's home and he had not gifted it to Altaf Bhai. What she is requesting is that please, I dont need it, you can donate it for a better cause. Ab her baat me Imran ko oppose nai kerney lag jaya karo.

good thinking Mrs Khan. Let us hope that we do more for the poor and the needy as these street children are their offshoots. This can be done by an equitable distribution of wealth nothing less. Lets see when this would be materialized. Lets strike at the root cause that is responsible for extreme poverty and extreme affluence in the country. Look at the life style of our leaders and you would come to realize who shares the responsibility for this social and economic injustice in the first place.

I disagree, I think it is actually insulting that someone gifts and AND THEN you just donate it as though you reject it. Id rather you donate it in my name. However lets try not to find negative in everything I think the point here is to help the poor and children because she is right what will some mere jewelry change in her life when it can change 100s of childrens lives?

Yes as a IK supporter I would suggest to accept the gift and then donate it to the hospital. What Altar wants to donate is his personal problem but gifts to IK and wife was a good gesture we all should appreciate it even if it was political.

action speaks more than words. I read an article in dawn that 90% of child get abused in Peshawar. What Imran had done there. Second I would like Imran and his wife to tell how much they pay to their house servants. And what they have done for the education of there servants kids education.
