PESHAWAR: A police official was on Wednesday suspended while another was issued show-cause notice for their failure to maintain law and order in phase-III of the Hayatabad Township, where an army officer was shot dead a few days back.

The action was taken by Peshawar SSP (operations) Dr Mian Saeed after the murder of Lt-Col Tahir Azeem and some other criminal incidents in the posh locality.

The suspended official was the concerned beat officer, while the SHO Daud Khan was directed to explain negligence in duty and submit a report immediately.

Meanwhile, a suspect, Mamoor Shah, who was killed in an encounter in Samar Bagh area of Peshawar on March 31, was allegedly involved in murder of two policemen at Paharipura area, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani claimed while talking to Dawn on Wednesday.

He claimed that the suspect was wanted to police in several cases, including murder of two policemen. He said that alleged murderer had already been booked in the Paharipura police station under sections 302, 324, 353 of PPC, and 7 ATA and 15AA on Nov 21, 2014. Similarly, another FIR under sections 387, 506 of PPC and 7ATA was registered against him at Faqirabad police station on July 21, 2014.

The minister said that the accused was also involved in cases of extortion, firing on police personnel and robberies in different localities.
