KARACHI: A suspect was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Quaidabad in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
They added that during a random check near the Mola Madad graveyard in Swati Mohalla, the police motioned for a motorbike rider to stop. Instead, he opened fire on the police, and in ‘retaliatory’ firing, he was wounded and later died, said SHO Amanullah Marwat.
The police claimed to have seized a pistol and the motorbike from his custody. The body was shifted to the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth for want of identification after a post-mortem examination conducted at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Man shot dead
A 38-year-old man was shot dead in Orangi Town late Monday night, Mominabad police said.
They added that as Daud Mohammed parked his motorbike outside his home in Shah Mohalla, Faqir Colony, gunmen on another motorcycle attacked and killed him.
The victim owned a spare parts shop in the Shershah market and originally hailed from Afghanistan. The murder appeared to be an outcome of some personal enmity, said SHO Sabir Khan.
Shopkeeper shot dead in Sachal
A 35-year-old shopkeeper was shot dead in the Sachal area on Tuesday evening, according to police.
They added that Amin Jan Marwat was sitting at his shop in Ali Town off the Superhighway when two assailants emerged there, fired at him and escaped.
He sustained bullet wounds in the head and was taken to the JPMC, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, the head of the JPMC’s emergency department.
The murder appeared to be motivated by some personal enmity, said Sachal SHO Sohail Awan.
