LAHORE: The Education Wing of the City District Government of Lahore handed over the functional control of its 147 primary, middle and high schools to a leading non-governmental organisation under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at the Town Hall here on Thursday.

Under the MoU, the NGO (Care Foundation) will run these schools for a period of 15 years, according to officials of the CDGL.

District Coordination Officer retired Capt Muhammad Usman and foundation chairperson Seema Aziz signed the agreement on behalf of their organisations.

“The core objective of handing over schools to the foundation is not only to improve education standard but also to increase enrollment of kids,” the DCO said.

CEREMONY: A leading non-government organisation on Thursday organised a certificate distribution ceremony in connection with successful completion of vocational skills training of 375 women under the first batch of the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF), Skills for Market 14-15 Project.

The chief guest was Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheeduddin.

Under PSDF’s Skills for Market Project, the Kashf Foundation is focusing on training women of rural and marginalised communities of Lahore on three trades –domestic tailoring, ada work and beautician – and establishing their linkages with market to support their income generation through entrepreneurship development.

At least 375 women from the first batch had successfully completed their training in three trades in March 2015.

Ms Hameeda said the Punjab government was keen towards women development and was prioritizing the economic empowerment of women in the province and extensively working towards creating opportunities of livelihood for women.
