LAHORE: A group of lawyers on Wednesday gave a sound thrashing to an elderly litigant in courtroom of an additional district and sessions judge.

Mehtab Bashir, 50, had come to the court to be testified in a fraud case filed against Rana Riaz Ahmad. The petitioner accused Ahmad of defrauding him of Rs7.5 million. Sattukatla police had also registered an FIR against the suspect.

As judge Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal resumed hearing, legal eagles of suspect Ahmad attacked Bashir with kicks and fists. The lawyers continued their bashing till the petitioner fell unconscious. The judge tried to calm down the situation but failed, an eyewitness said.

Some other advocates were also present in the court but they just looked on and let their colleagues finish their job. The aggressive lawyers went away after injuring the litigant, he said.

The injured was taken to hospital. The judge adjourned proceedings till March 25.
