KARACHI: Pakistan Navy were on verge of completing a crushing victory after Sindh Police were forced to follow on in the Patron’s Trophy (Grade-II) Cricket Tournament match here on Saturday.

On day two of the three-day Group ‘A’ fixture at the UBL Sports Complex, the policemen were in dire straits at 151-7 in the second innings after being bowled out for 197 in response to Navy’s first-innings tally of 408-6.

Off-spinner Nasir Awais grabbed six for 60 and paceman Zohaib Shera 4-54 before slow left-armer Fawad Khan tormented Sindh Police further with 4-43 in the second innings with Nasir taking two more as well.

Wet conditions at the NBP Sports Complex saw play being restricted to just seven overs; K-Electric added 17 runs to Friday’s total before declaring at 354-5 in 67 overs. Medicam batted five overs safely to reach 18-0.

Zia-ul-Haq’s 166 (14 boundaries) helped Pakistan Customs earn a lead of 46 against Saudi Cricket International at the RLCA Gulberg Ground. After Saudi closed at 330-7, Customs totalled 376-7 in 76.1 overs.

Mohammad Amir continued his comeback to competitive by scoring 29 as Omar Associates took a 39-run lead over Capital Development Authority (CDA) by making 307 in the Group ‘B’ tie at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Mohammad Waqas excelled by stroking 143 (off 222 balls, 13 fours and two sixes). Amir, who took 3-73 in the first innings on Friday, claimed one of the two wickets to fall as CDA went to stumps 88-2.

Asim Textile made a fitting response to Candyland’s 406-7 as they collected 366-4 in 75.5 overs in their Group ‘C’ fixture at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. Faisal bin Mubashir was their hero with a 149-ball 128 (10 boundaries).

Veteran Rehan Rafiq struck an even 100 (153 balls, seven fours and two sixes) as Dollar East obtained a vital 19-run lead against Service Industries in the Group ‘D’ match at the Stags Cricket Ground in Lahore.

By stumps, Service Industries led by 61 as they struggled to 80-3 in the second innings.
