Indian police break up Tibetan protest at Chinese Embassy

NEW DELHI: Indian police on Tuesday detained about 100 Tibetans who were protesting outside the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi on the anniversary of a failed 1959 uprising against China's rule in Tibet.
Protesters interlocked their hands and tried to form a chain around the embassy before police stepped in and dragged them away.
Some protesters shouted “Free Tibet” and “Rise up for freedom,” while others tied themselves together with an iron link chain.
Some Tibetan men had painted their bodies and faces in the yellow, blue and red colors of the Tibetan flag.
Officers were seen struggling with the protesters as they separated them and carried them to police jeeps and buses.
Police officer Dhruv Narain said the Tibetans were being held at nearby police stations and would be released later Tuesday.
The protest was to mark the 56th anniversary of the uprising, which led to the flight of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetans' spiritual leader, and the establishment of the Tibetan government-in-exile in a north Indian town.
Tibetan activists said they were dedicating their protest to the memory of the 130 Tibetans who have self-immolated since 2009 to protest Chinese rule in Tibet.

The Tibetan issue is such a thorn in China' side that it has no clue what to do about it. There is no violence, no terrorism and no war. But over a period of time, the Tibetans led by the Dalai Lama have created such a "brand" for themselves that it is thought to be respectable to be associated with the Tibetan cause.
Pakistanis, who just love Kashmir and Palestine, should read up on Tibet. It may just give them perspective.

Occupation of Tibet has led to destroyinga of unique Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetan's are very peace loving people.They have set camps near to many cities in India. Buddhism is a very peace loving religion and needs tobe protected . Many Budhist mmonasteries and statues were destroyed in Pakistan & Afghanistan. UN and other progressive, democratic societies hAve come forward to help them

Tibet is lost cause for the world and a lost country. If it becomes free then it would be the ninth largest country of the world. Around one million Tibetan refugees living in India. China annexed a beautiful country. Tibet,east Turkestan,inner mangolia,HK,Manchuria need to get freedom from Chinese occupation.

@Shamain bhai your perception is purely based on biased media reports. Its nothing like over there. See "SOLVING" Kashmir problem can trigger Balkanisation of both India and Pakistan. So its bettr to make it a unifying point rather than a dividing one. Bettr put this in a cold bag and do something for development of Bloch Sindhi kp Fata Punjabi masses and same apply to India.

Solving kashmir will atleast ease life of your soldiers who are now committing suicide. And under AFSPA Act the brutalities your army has rendered out is known to all. Pakistan should push about it harder on intl forums. Endians always need a stick to learn.

@Harmony ,i dont think dawn will punlish. But i am a kashmiri and i have lived in ajk. You wont see any troops on streets they are only along border. our rangers have made countless sacrifices for us kashmiris. This is why i speak positive of pak army . I didnt even know there is a thing like troops deployed on streets, something i learnt about iok and i was shocked...
And lastly i used to read abt kashmiri womens' rape before their fathers n brothers, while growing up. I suffer from very deep fear of rape.

We all know atrocities being committed on Kashmiris but insincere and inhuman Indian stance is evident and appalling for a ‘democracy’. I just hope, the way gang rape incident on the bus outraged India, atrocities on Kashmir would too.
