QUETTA: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme Marvi Memon called on Balochistan Governor Mohammad Khan Achakzai here on Monday and briefed him about the BISP’s ongoing projects and its future course of action.

During the meeting that took place at the Governor House, Mr Achakzai said the BISP could be made more effective with the help of local government representatives.

Ms Memon also called on Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch at the CM Secretariat and told him that after assuming office she was visiting Quetta, Sibi and Loralai to meet poor women.

She said the cash disbursement system was being made effective. Under the Waseela-i-Taleem Programme, every deserving child would be given a scholarship of Rs200 in six districts of Balochistan and the programme would soon be extended to all districts across the country, she added.

The chief minister assured the BISP chief of his support for smooth running of the programme.

He directed secretaries of different departments to form a committee and make the BISP more effective.

Later, Ms Memon visited the BISP’s regional office and met women beneficiaries of the programme and issued directives for resolution of the issues faced by them.
