GUJRANWALA: Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) teams on Friday detected several bogus domestic gas meters being used for commercial purposes and arrested a consumer, while another managed to escape.

SNGPL General Manager Tayyab Faisal said the domestic gas meter of Zafar Iqbal of Fatumand was illegal and he was using it for both domestic and commercial purposes. When a team conducted a raid, he managed to escape. The team removed the meter and got a case registered against him.

Similarly, another team detected two bogus domestic gas meters in Sialkot and arrested the consumer, identified as Kausar Shah, who was allegedly supplying gas to other houses from his unauthorised meters. Faisal said a case had been registered against Shah. He also said gas supply was improving by the day due to a change in weather.

TENDERS: Building contractors demonstrated on Friday outside the office Pakistan Works Department for changing tariff of tenders and demanded restoration of the former tariff.

The protesters, led by Contractors Association President Saifullah and General Secretary Sultan Mehmood, said first the tender fee was fixed at 5pc of its total cost. But now it had been changed to Rs10,000 per tender, which oppressed small contractors. They demanded it be reversed as only big contractors would benefit from it.

FREED: Around 78 prisoners involved in petty cases were released by District and Sessions Judge Amir Ahmad during his visit to the jail on Friday.

The judge got prepared a list of these prisoners and ordered their instant release. The judge also visited various barracks, including juvenile and women’s, and listened to the inmates’ problems. He also checked the jail hospital, kitchen and security arrangements. The jail superintendent and other officers accompanied him.
