LAHORE: The Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has criticised the pattern of question papers of the class-V examinations being conducted by the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC), claiming students have not been trained for it.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, PTU President Syed Sajjad Akbar Kazmi said the class-V science paper, held on Saturday, was prepared on a pattern that was neither discussed by district teacher educators nor were teachers taken into confidence.

He claimed students got confused when they received the question papers on the exam day.

“This situation will drastically affect results and teachers, as usual, would be penalised,” he said.

Kazmi also criticised the commission for assigning examination duties to teachers at the eleventh hour and that too through telephonic instructions. He also stressed that women teachers should not be assigned examinations duties outside their tehsils.

When contacted, PEC spokesman Shahzad Malik said the paper pattern was the same as last year that included objective and subjective questions. He said the pattern was conveyed to teachers by district teacher educators and was also available on the commission’s website.

He added the commission had this year made an intervention of developing six different versions of each paper to check cheating practices in the examinations.
