ISLAMABAD: Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) officials have registered a complaint with Margalla police against former director general (DG) FDE Dr Shahnaz Riaz to take back an official car still being used by the latter.

Dr Shahnaz Riaz was removed from her post as DG FDE in 2014 but is still receiving Rs65,000 as conveyance allowance and using the official car.

Dr Riaz defended to Dawn her right to use the car, claiming that she had purchased it under the government’s ‘monetization policy’.

Senior officials in the FDE refuted this claim and said that she never paid any money to the government for the car.

FDE Assistant Director Transport Saleem Awan said following a directive by Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), the FDE has approached the police to recover the official car.

Dr Riaz admitted that she has been receiving conveyance allowance.

“However, this is not illegal,” she said.

The former DG was removed from her post in May 2014, following which she was directed to report back to CADD.

A source at CADD said she was posted to the Curriculum Wing, however, she refused to work at this new post and never joined.

Dr Riaz denied this allegation and said she had never received an official letter regarding her new assignment.

“Sometimes the CADD officials say I have been appointed as joint education adviser and other times they say I have been posted to the Curriculum Wing. However, I have yet to receive anything in black and white, regarding my new appointment,” she said.

Station House Officer (SHO) Rukhsar Mehdi confirmed to Dawn that FDE lodged a complaint against Dr Shahnaz Riaz for the recovery of the official car.

However, he termed this First Information Report (FIR) to be unnecessary. “The former DG FDE is still part of the CADD ministry, so rather than registering an FIR, the CADD should take disciplinary action against her for misuse of power,” he said.
