MULTAN: Former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the government should ask the United States to sign a deal with Pakistan like it inked with India.
Addressing a meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party representatives from entire south Punjab here on Saturday, he said Pakistan fought war against terrorism on the front line “but the USA is signing a civil nuclear deal with India”.
“Over 40,000 civilians and 7,000 soldiers have so far sacrificed their lives in war against terror which also destabilised the country,” he said.
He claimed the PPP implemented the Charter of Democracy (CoD) in its true spirit and ensured election through ballot.
He declared that his party would cooperate with the government for the implementation of the remaining 15 per cent of CoD.
He said the PPP government did not hold talks with Taliban on which Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif subjected the PPP government to criticism “while today both of them opposed a dialogue with the Taliban which validated party’s stance”.
He urged the government to create both Seraiki and Bahawalpur provinces as the PML-N government in Punjab had passed the resolution to that effect.
“The PML-N government has majority in National Assembly and if they are sincere in creating Bahawalpur and South Punjab provinces we will support them,” he said.
Gilani said it was unfortunate that the provincial government claimed in the budget to allocate Rs50 billion for South Punjab but hardly spent Rs5 billion on the region. “The condition of schools and hospitals is poor, people do not have clean drinking water and sewerage system is faulty, but the government is spending Rs40 billion on one project of Metro bus.”
He demanded that the government make Multan International Airport operational and complete Multan-Faisalabad Motorway project as the PPP government had already released funds for it.
He said he had released Rs560 million for Multan Cancer Hospital and equipment had also been brought with a spending of Rs300 million but the project was still incomplete.
PPP South Punjab President Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood asked workers to accept membership drive as a challenge.
He claimed that the party would achieve a strong position in Punjab in two years.

Also, the deal with India was signed 6 years ago but there was an issue about who will pay if there were an accident so this issue is resolved during Obama's visit. Pakistan has asked the US for an identical nuclear deal but it was politely rejected and Gillani should know that.The PP did not indulge into any talks with the TTP but it also did not do anything to eliminate them .Development projects like Making Multan an international airport the cancer project and the Faisalabad motorway must be completed. The NS government is not paying attention to these projects as they were started by a different government which is a shame.

Gilani first fight your corruption case and do not fool the poor people of Pakistan by making irresponsible statements with the sole intention of coming into limelight. No nation in the world is going to ink a nuclear deal with Pakistan as long as it remains unstable and always in a state of flux with Islamic militants striking at will.
I think first Pakistani govt/military has to eradicate terrorism from its soil and stop giving overt/covert support to militants of all hues.

Why not, if Americans feel to ink a nuclear deal with Pakistan, then surely they should do it.provided their doubts are taken care of. Incidentally I want to point out, India has already signed nuclear deal with 1. France 2. Russia 3. Australia. And then has signed with 4. US now.
Has Pakistan Already signed nuclear deals with France, Russia or Australia.
Then why is it that ,necessarily Pakistan has to sign with US. IS it just to equal score with India or is it signing nuclear deal with US is better deal compared to any other country ?
It's a known fact that India's energy needs are far greater than Pakistan, hence Indo-US deal deal is just one of the deals to cater to Power hungry Indian industries and a population of 125 billion people and the growth vision India has chalked out.
Anyways, it would be good if Pakistan secures unstability within the country and US considers it safe to sign civil nuclear agreement with Pakistan and thinks it safe that it would not be misused, even if this is achieved, Pakistan's most of the problems would be solved by then. This would have ensured that Pakistan would not b a safe heaven for terrorists by then. Would look forward for the day to see the 2 South asian brotherly countries with no shortage of power, in my lifetime.

Remember KANNUP, Canada supplied nuclear technology to Pakistan, India, Korea, China. Since then China and Korea researched and developed their own technology. Pakistani politicians and so called experts on TV talk shows are in out of touch with reality. There is increasing clamor in Washington DC to stop or at least drastically reduce aid to Pakistan. It started with OBL being found in Pakistan and calls have only grown louder ever since. There is complete trust deficit. The American president will be risking his presidency for even considering a nuclear deal with Pakistan, let alone signing one. The U.S.sees partnership with Pakistan as born out desperation and has no intention to form long term sustainable economic ties with Islamabad.
