PESHAWAR: The police have claimed arresting 246 suspected people during the ongoing search and strike operation throughout the province against criminals and anti-social elements and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

A police spokesman said that the people had been rounded up on Saturday and Sunday. He said that 79 arms and 1,132 rounds of different bore had also been seized.

The spokesman said that during the operation 873 houses and 499 hotels were checked and 38 cases were registered against the violators, adding that the action would continue to maintain law and order in the province.

Similarly, he said, during snap checking on various check points, 285 suspects were held and 10 arms of different kind and 130 cartridges of different bore were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said the KP police have completed inspection of 2,153 educational institutions in the province and advised some 20,371 institutions of various categories to further beef up security arrangements in order to avoid any terrorist attack on their premises.

The spokesman said that though police had taken appropriate steps for checking of suspected persons and vehicles, it was also duty of the schools to follow the security plan in order to ensure security of students and staff members.
