LAHORE: Law-enforcement agencies on Saturday arrested a National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) employee for allegedly trying to issue illegal computerised national identity cards (CNIC) to some foreigners in Lahore.

According to police sources, intelligence personnel arrested an assistant manager of a Nadra outlet in Kamoki and shifted him to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The sources said the Nadra employee had taken over Rs800,000 from some Afghans and Uzbeks in order to help them get illegal CNICs.

Nadra spokesman Faiq Ali Chachar confirmed that its employee of Lahore region had been found involved in an “abnormal activity” by its vigilance wing and handed over to law-enforcement agencies for further investigation.

“Nadra will take a disciplinary action against the employee,” he added.
