Shifting of post office

Sir,

Gulistan-i-Jauhar is comprised of 20 blocks, but there is only one main post office, located in Block 14, to cater to the postal needs of all the blocks. The post office is located in a residential area and its location is obscure. Some time back a request was made to the postal authorities to shift the post office, but the matter was shelved.

Till recently, the post office was working in two shifts, one in the forenoon and the other in the afternoon. However, the facility recently got orders to discontinue the afternoon shift for reasons not known. This has created problems for senior citizens, who used to pay their utility bills in the second shift.

The authorities concerned are requested not only to shift the post office to a better place on the main road, but also to restart the afternoon shift in the public interest. It will also increase government revenues if the post office is brought to the main road and the afternoon shift is restarted.

Korangi Crossing

Sir,

The situation at the Korangi Crossing needs attention. Thousands of students get stuck in traffic jams every day at the crossing in the morning and the evening for more than half an hour. Resultantly, many students cannot reach their classes and examinations in time. Pollution here is also beyond limits. Unfortunately, traffic lights have never been put into operation. Probably the chief minister and the elected representatives of this area have not bothered about building a flyover here or have never visited this site.

Unscheduled loadshedding

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like draw the attention of the KE authorities towards the problem of frequent power breakdowns in my area.

In many city areas the timing of load-shedding is fixed, and people know when the power will go off, and when it will be switched back on. But in some areas, e.g. my area (Surjani 7A) there is no fixed timing; sometimes loadshedding extends six to eight hours.

The worst victims of loadshedding are students, who cannot study with full concentration. The authorities concerned are requested to look into this matter seriously and sympathetically.

State of Superhighway

Sir,

I would like to draw your attention towards the state of the Superhighway, particularly at Sohrab Goth. When we drive from Water Pump towards the Superhighway along Incholi Society, we see broken patches of road and heaps of garbage scattered almost along the entire length of the road till the Maymar cut. It appears that this area has never been cleaned. Furthermore, burning of garbage is rampant.

In addition, huge buses are parked two and three abreast at this spot. Other private vehicles can also be seen parked on both sides of the road.

The authorities concerned are requested to look into the matter and do their job in order to create a healthy and clean environment.

Construction of Malir flyovers

Sir,

We became very happy when the long-standing demand of Malir residents was finally approved and the construction of two flyovers — one at Malir 15 and other at Malir Halt — was started. But this happiness didn’t last very long.

The work was started — as always — without having any planning and vision. It is imperative that whenever you plan any new bridge first you need to make an alternative passage for running traffic. In this case even though two bridges were being made on the same road, no alternative arrangement was made for traffic. People are still passing through these areas with a lot of hardship.

Later on, people noticed that the work was progressing at a snail’s pace. Now, work has totally been stopped for the last few weeks for unknown reasons. We, the residents of Malir, appeal to the authorities concerned to not only resume the work on these bridges immediately, but also to build an alternative route for passengers and finish the remaining work as soon as possible so that the people of Malir, who have been deliberately kept underdeveloped due to political reasons, can also breathe a sigh of relief.
