KARACHI: Retired Justice Agha Rafique on Wednesday resigned from the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) chairman office that he had assumed on June 6, 2014 for five years.

Before taking over as SPSC chairman, Justice Agha Rafique remained chief justice of the Federal Shariat Court of Pakistan for five years.

Justice Rafique confirmed to Dawn that he sent his resignation formally to Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday evening. In the resignation, he mentioned that he found himself unable to continue as the SPSC chairman due to unavoidable circumstances.

In reply to a question, he said he worked as a judge throughout his life but after assuming the charge of the commission he found it not up to his standard.
