ISLAMABAD: After warnings by the National Assembly’s standing committee on cabinet secretariat, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman has ordered inquiry against its coordination department for not providing information to the committee on time.

CDA chief Maroof Afzal issued directives to hold disciplinary action against the director general coordination for repeatedly failing to forward the information to the cabinet division.

“Data sought by the parliamentary committees are sent to them through the cabinet division,” said an official of the civic body.

The issue came to light when the NA body, headed by Rana Mohammad Hayat Khan, during a meeting got annoyed with the CDA management for not providing it details of plots sold during the last five years.

The committee even suggested that legal action should be taken against the CDA management for concealing the public facts.

“The figures were to be presented to the committee on December 22 but the members did not receive it till December 26,” Hayat Khan told the CDA officers present in the meeting. “And this is a regular habit of the CDA to delay the supply of information.”

To streamline the system, the CDA has decided to take action against the responsible officials.

“The information was forwarded to the cabinet division on Friday evening, so it would reach the committee members next week,” said a senior official of the CDA.

“But such issues collectively add to the overall indiscipline in the CDA and this has to be controlled,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CDA is also planning to make changes in its law department as the civic body has been losing many court cases.

Talking to Dawn, even the CDA chairman acknowledged that the speed of work on cases related to the non-conforming use of buildings was quite slow.

He said the CDA needed to push ahead in this regard.

Despite successes in the recent months, there are still 2,075 cases of non-confirming use of residential areas.
