LAHORE: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday between the Provincial Social Welfare Department and the Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) for providing quality medical facilities to women and children in Darul Amans of the province.

Ambassador of Denmark Jesper Moller Sorensen, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Syed Haroon Sultan Bukhari, Social Welfare Cap secretary Jahanzaib Khan, PAFP President Dr Mian Tariq Mehmood, MDM France general coordinator Vetrio Opezaie and other officers were present.

Social Welfare director-general Muhammad Yasrab and Finance secretary Jamil Bhatti on behalf of PAFP signed the MoU.

According to a handout, Syed Haroon Sultan said the SWD and MDM had been working jointly for the improvement of the condition of Darul Amans for 10 years.

He said the government of Denmark had been providing funds for the project.

He expressed the hope that in future the up-gradation of these institutions and welfare of children would also be carried out with the cooperation of Denmark.

He said the Punjab government was taking all possible steps for the care of hapless women and children.

Denmark Ambassador Jesper Moller Sorensen said that every possible cooperation would be extended for providing healthcare facilities to women and children in Darul Amaans of Punjab.

He said that besides health, his government would also continue cooperation in education and other sectors.
