DERA GHAZI KHAN: There is no chance of a war between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the wake of Peshawar carnage as cooperation is underway between the two governments to curb the extremist militancy.

Foreign Affairs Standing Committee head MNA Awais Khan Leghari said this at a function held here on Saturday to hand over Rs13.5 million compensation cheques to heirs of victims of two road accidents.

Mr Leghari said there was a better understanding with the new “positive” Afghan leadership over the issue of terrorists who carried out Peshawar carnage.

He further maintained that the country’s Afghan policy had been changed, adding the two countries were in economic and security cooperation. He said the Peshawar carnage would have a deep impact on society.

He warned there might be a reaction to the speedy execution of convicted terrorists and public should be aware of it.

Commenting on suspended India-Pakistan dialogue, Mr Leghari said the ball was in Indian court and if they had no desire to negotiate then “we also think the same way”.

To a query about Pak-Iran gas project, he said it was a victim of international politics, adding no government could stop the energy projects, including getting gas from central Asian states.

Earlier, Awaiz Leghari and MPA Mehmood Qadir Leghari, along with District Coordination Officer Nadeemur Rehman gave cheques to the heirs of those who died in accidents in Puno Aqil and Notak. As many as 42 residents of the district were killed and 12 were left injured in these accidents.
