LAHORE: Security was tightened in and around the Kot Lakhpat Central Jail on Friday after intelligence agencies received threats of an assault by terrorists.

According to jail sources, heavy contingents of commandoes and local police were deployed around the jail on Thursday night after intelligence agencies alerted jail authorities about possibility of an assault. Authorities installed jammers to block mobile phones in the 2,000-metre radius of the jail and declared it a no-go area.

The sources said security personnel were deployed on all the routes and roads connected to the jail. Authorities banned movement of all heavy vehicles around the premises and blocked paths leading to the jail by installing pickets.

The city police were conducting a search operation in residential areas and colonies around the jail to arrest suspects.
