RAWALPINDI: Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, who had been granted bail on Thursday by an anti-terrorism court, was detained again on Friday for 30 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO).

Official sources said the detention orders sought by the Capital Territory Police were sent to the superintendent of Adiala Jail where Lakhvi had been kept.

According to the prosecution, Lakhvi was charged on the basis of a statement by Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving gunman from the Mumbai attacks, before an Indian magistrate.

Islamabad’s SSP Asmatullah Junego said it was decided to detain him for another 30 days because the government believed that he could disturb public order.
