KARACHI: A bill pertaining to the formation of one university each in Karachi and Hyderabad, bearing the name of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, was approved by the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday.

Tuesday is considered as the private members day in the provincial assembly. In the order of the day, the business includes three private bills for introduction and consideration.

Two of the bills related to Altaf Hussain University in Karachi and Hyderabad were tabled for discussion on the floor of the assembly and were subsequently approved.

Notices for the bills were given by MQM lawmakers Faisal Sabzwari, Syed Sardar Ahmad, Khwaja Izharul Hasan, Aamir Moin Pirzada and others.

The notice of the third bill, pertaining to the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University at Shaheed Benazirabad, was given by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio. The debate for it is under progress.

The assembly session was summoned by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad.
