Ebola in Pakistan

Published November 27, 2014

IT HAS been almost two months since the ministry of health issued the warning on Ebola in Pakistan and now one suspect, 40-year-old Zulfiqar Ahmed, who hailed from Punjab’s Chiniot district, was admitted to Faisalabad’s Allied Hospital on Saturday with high fever after being treated by multiple doctors in the town.

Hundreds of people are travelling to Pakistan from African countries on a daily basis. I had the experience of travelling to and from East Africa last month and was astonished to see the preparations at their airports although East Africa is still Ebola-free but even then the authorities were on their toes and screening each and every traveller to the best of their ability and had established three-fold health screening counters at their airports.

When we see the preparations in Pakistan, we are just like waiting for the deadly virus. We must start reacting generously and establish strict health screening counters for all travelers coming from Africa.
