TILL a decade ago, the name Bahria was in the exclusive use of the Pakistan Navy, its educational institutions, housing colonies and other projects sponsored by the defenders of our maritime frontiers.
However, during the last decade the name has been used to launch various housing developments by a private land developer, first in Punjab, and recently in Karachi at exorbitant rates.
Some people are still under the impression that these housing schemes are linked to the navy and are, therefore, rushing to invest in them.
Thus the good name of the navy is being used to promote private commercial projects. This is causing a great deal of confusion, especially in Karachi, where a number of official establishments already existed.
The exclusive rights to the name Bahria must be restored to the navy.
