NOWSHERA: A local leader of Awami National Party was killed and another was injured when unknown assailants opened fire on them at Nowshera Kalan here on Sunday.

Police said that Ijaz Khan, brother of former nazim, Wisal Khan of Nowshera Kalan, and his friend, Noor Mohammad, got injuries when unknown assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on their car. They were on way to attend a marriage ceremony in the locality.

They said that both the injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital, Nowshera, from where they were referred to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar in precarious condition. However, Ijaz Khan succumbed to his wounds on way to Peshawar. His body was handed over to family after autopsy at the hospital.

The assailants managed to escape the area after the incident. Family of the deceased ANP leader told police that they had no enmity with anyone.

However, Nowshera Kalan police registered case against unknown assailants and began investigation.
