Afridi’s charity to donate winter goods to IDPs

PESHAWAR: Cricket superstar Shahid Khan Afridi Friday reiterated pledge of his charity foundation regarding assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Waziristan operation saying he wanted to donate some winter related relief goods to the affectees.

He called on Corps Commander Peshawar Lt-Gen Hidayatur Rehman here at Corps Headquarters, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.

The cricket hero on this occasion informed Lt-Gen Rehman that his foundation – Shahid Afridi Foundation – wanted to donate some winter related relief goods to the affectees.

Afridi had launched the charity foundation in June, saying it will focus on mothers and internal refugees. The foundation has already set up a 16-bed maternity hospital in remote Tangi Banda village in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

During today’s meeting, Afridi lauded services of the Pakistan Army for properly taking care of the affected people of the military operations.

The Corps Commander eulogised the goodwill gesture and assured that Pakistan Army would leave no stone unturned in their early rehabilitation and resettlement in their native towns.

It may be mentioned that Shahid Afridi had played an exhibition match with the IDPs in their relief camp in Bannu few days back.
