At least 30 suspected militants killed in North Waziristan airstrikes

PESHAWAR: Jet strikes killed at least 30 suspected militants and destroyed a number of insurgent hideouts in the North Waziristan tribal region.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), foreign militants were among the 30 who were killed when jet fighters carried out airstrikes in North Waziristan's Dattakhel area.

The area is off-limits to journalists, making it impossible to independently verify the exact numbers and identity the dead.

The latest airstrikes come as military operation Zarb-i-Azb is underway in the tribal region. The army has said that over 1,000 militants and 86 soldiers have already been killed in the assault so far.

The operation was initiated on June 15 following a brazen militant attack on Karachi's international airport and failure of peace talks between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) negotiators.

The offensive has driven out over 800,000 residents from North Waziristan and the army says it has cleared 90 per cent of the tribal region.

Very good 'news' of killings. Even militants are human beings, aren't they? Why does this failed state does not use other methods to induce them to give up and lead a normal peaceful life? Afterall they are the remnants of afghan war against the dreaded Soviets, who were encouraged to fight them by us !!!

This is the daily ritual 4-5 years. Aircraft bombing, 25-30 militants killed. There's nothing to verify. We are told there are an estimated 4000 militants. The math simply won't add up, but then there's no rationality when it comes to Pakistan.

@Sajjad Khan More than 50,000 Civilians dead, property worth of millions of rupees destroyed, national assets worth billions destroyed, 1000's of widows, decade of violence. the list goes on and on !!! if Pakistan was the only one who supported these militants against soviet. than wake up soviet's left. who and why are they fighting now. wake up or grow up

While everyone knows names of Kashmiri on Indian side killed, we don't even know how many ( 30 is rounded off) and who we're killed. Air strike has high collateral, media just reports killing with no details, why? Please this is our country our people, please their life is more or as much valuable than any Indian Kashmiri.
