BAHAWALPUR: President Mamnoon Hussain has said the government is taking measures to resolve the energy crisis and has launched projects to generate 22,000 megawatt electricity in the coming years.

Speaking at a function at Sadiq Public School here on Thursday, he claimed that it would take three years for the country to be “self-sufficient” in energy generation and it might generate surplus power after five years.

He said China , Saudi Arabia and Turkey being the friends of Pakistan were extending support to build the country’s shattered economy and with their financial assistance an economic corridor from Kashgar (China) to Gwadar was under way. It would help Pakistan usher in a new economic order.

He said students would have to play a role in ensuring bright future of the country.

The president paid a tribute to Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi for the establishment of this school about 61 years ago. He asked the SPS management to provide scholarships to the deserving students. Earlier, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar said the government was paying special attention to the promotion of education as it had increased the allocation from Rs210 billion to Rs470 billion.
