KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will look into comments made by stand-in skipper Shahid Afridi which fuelled speculation about the future of captain Misbahul Haq, board chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Tuesday.
A show-cause notice was issued to Afridi by the cricket board asking the all-rounder to submit his reply within two weeks over comments made regarding the issue of the national cricket team's captaincy.
The 40-year-old Misbah had opted to sit out Pakistan's third one-day international against Australia in Abu Dhabi and all-rounder Afridi was named to lead the side.
Afridi's comments at a news conference gave rise to speculation that he was in line to lead the team during next year's World Cup and hinted at strife within the team.
Khan stepped in to defuse the controversy and reiterated that Misbah would remain in charge through next year's showpiece event in Australia and New Zealand.
“As far as the PCB is concerned, we are supporting Misbah and he is our captain till the World Cup,” Khan said. “The remarks made by Afridi are regretful and unfortunate and perhaps gave the indication of something wrong in the team.

“We are looking into Afridi's statement to see whether he has violated his central contract terms and if this is so disciplinary action can be taken against him.”
The 34-year-old Afridi, who has played 384 ODIs, said he was ready to lead the team and the board should decide quickly who they wanted as captain in the World Cup.
His remarks fuelled speculation that Misbah, who has been leading Pakistan since 2010, was put under pressure to step aside for the third ODI.
Khan said Afridi should have been more careful with his words and added that Misbah had himself opted to sit out because he was worried with his form.

“I had a long talk with Misbah and he remains our captain but he himself has said that if he doesn't get runs in the coming tests against Australia and New Zealand he doesn't want to be a burden on the team,” Khan said.
Misbah has been Pakistan's leading run scorer in tests and ODIs over the last three years but has struggled since the tour to Sri Lanka in August.
He also failed to get runs in the first two ODIs against Australia, who swept the three-match series.

Though I am not great fan of Shahid Afridi because of his temperament and attitude but what he said is correct. PCB should announce the captain for the world cup. With Najam Sethi running the affairs of the PCB I see little chance of Pakistan team doing good in the world cup.

it is funny they are asking Misbah to be removed for captaincy after bad form for last 6 months. whereas Mr Afridi performance has been a joke through out his career and is happy to lead the team. May i add we have been playing him as a batting allrounder all these years and his avg is the worst one can come across

Remember what happened to pieterson and the action the ECB took. Send any "too big for his boots"home. Make rule that any discent in any national team is not acceptable in the national teams.
If you do not accept the captain just go home.
Afridi has gone well gone pass his sell by date. Send him home .

Everybody knows that there are at least three skippers in the ODI squad of green-shirts which lost the last match against Australia in Abu Dhabi-U.A.E. by one run. Afridi is just one of them.

In any sport the essential traits of a captain is to have Hosh with Josh. I think Misbah has tons of HOSH and JOSH as well. Josh is not seen by the fans of BOOM, BOOM Afridi because his approach is NOT nonsensical. He plays according to the merit of the bowler. He gives respect to the good delivers and punishes the bad ones. He's been more consistent than Afridi among runs. You need Afridi too in the team who can hit big sixes at will and take few wickets here 'n there. My choice for Pakistan Captain is MISBAH UL HAQ !!!! He looks good shaking hand with DHONI who has been a great leader for India. None of other Pakistani players will look good as captain standing next to Dhoni.

Afridi always runs his mouth, he is not only useless but a cancer for the team. I may not like Misbah but he seems like a respectful guy. Afridi looks like a high school drop-out that thinks women's place is in the kitchen.

I see a paki version of kp in afridi.. I think he may be axed as sharyar said his position as player will be first assessed so no point in assuming he will captain the team. Its also possible afridi may retire as i see not much wrong in what he said!

Two days ago, many Pakistani fans questioned me for being critical of Shaharyar Khan when he publicly said "Misbah could go if he wanted to". But this is exactly why I criticised the man. His comment was twisted by Afridi... and a new controversy seems to be erupting ...this doesn't help team morale

The PCB should be put under investigation by National Accountability Bureau for checking the selections they make at all levels and ensure all selections are merit base rather than influenced in any manner.

What I respect is Misbah looking out for the team by sitting out and saying if he doesn't produce he doesn't want to be a burden on the team.
Guess who has done that? No leader in the past, in cricket or in politics in recent history.
If you are power hungry and seek a leadership role, you should never get it. If you are humble and lead by example, you deserve it.

I was more hoping that Afridi had announced his retirement -for good. But he should.
What has his performance been in the last many games? Someone? Yet he was selected as the captain.
Misbah always performs and holds the side together, maybe a little lapse against Sir Lanka.
Besides him who can lead the team?

Shahid Afridi must lead the team, and there should be on captain. Captain for different types of matches etc. are reason for conflict and rift. Shahid Afrid being an allrounder and seasoned, he is more capabale to lead the team.

We have talentless youth and aged and aging players whose usefulness expired sometime ago. Bowling is very mediocre at best. The only thing consistent is our fielding which is bad as always.

Afridi plays for public and Misbhah plays for himself when they are batting. Nobody plays for the team and for the country. Still Misbah is better only b/c he has got a head on his shoulder.

I just don't understand why any sports news would be worthy of the front page, when we have so many real issues affecting everyday lives of millions of folks in Pakistan. They don't care about the fans, yet the fans get worked up over every little thing about these spoiled rich celebrities. These guys are laughing their way to the bank while the media and the people have developed an unhealthy obsession with them.

What I grasped from this whole fiasco is that both of them do not deserve any place in team, not to mention of captaincy. New talent to be introduced and encouraged, even if they do not score still to be trained n motivated instead wasting mammoth money and time on old cars.

What a fiasco..PCB has no protocol when it comes to giving statements in media. How can 4 of them(Shahryar,Moin,Misbah,Afridi) give out contradicting statements? This inly happens with PCB,no other board!!!

Unbelievable, if a person speaks out truth, that becomes a crime in Pakistan. PCB for god sake, do some concrete work towards establishing cricket ties with other countries, rather just issuing show cause notices to your players. It is because of PCB's pathetic work due to which our team is not playing enough international matches. If we cannot host matches in Pakistan, than PCB should schedule series with all other teams at their home grounds rather playing one or two series in a year in UAE.... It is time for govt of Pakistan to either resolve security issues so that international cricket can come back to Pakistan or else just disolve PCB and a cricket team.

This was probably the tenth show cause notice to Afridi since the 2011 WC. Show case notices have also been issued to Younus Khan. These officials Subhan and Zakir Khan have nothing better t do. Shahid Afridi is more valuable to the board then all the officials put together as he is a crowd puller while the oficials spend all the money earned by Afridi for the board.

we literally need a "Naya Paksitan" in cricket. Out with all the oldies and constantly injured players. Again I respect Misbah but his age has caught up, its time to retire. We aren't going to win WC so lets start the cleaning now and prepare for WC 2018. Veterans should be Maqsood, Alam, Hafeez Sarfaz and maybe Riaz ( I like his attitude and energy). Maybe if M. Amir is reinstated and a few more youngsters we could have a top class team. However we also need to have good grassroots crickets u-19 etc and prepare the future well. That is why India is top class, they prepare the youngsters well and are full of talent. Pak is currently drowning in corruption, mismanagement and personal vendettas as well as narcism. I have never seen such a unpredictable and inconsistent team as Pak. They have a problem, I think they are mentally weak and aren't concentrating. Some shots Afridi and Akmal take makes me think they are not very smart individuals. We also should keep assets like Akram and Mushtaq around to train youngsters.

im very surprised and happy to see some very sane people out here who are supporting the right and speaking against the so called superstar of our cricket. afridi shouldve never been in the squad had he been in srilanka india southafrica or australia but this is pakistan and a TUKKA is our hero and a performer becomes TUK TUK. i pray misbah leads us and i pray even more that he leads us to glory

No one gets emotionally invested in the team or goes to watch a match to for PCB office holders, they are not the superstars they would like to think they are but the impediments to our success in cricket! The reason they exist is because of the players not the other way around. So they need to get of their collective high horse, abandon their exalted stations, say good bye to their megalomania, bid adieu to their inflated egos and their delusions of self importance. Please work in good faith in the spirit of cooperation rather than with intimidation, fear, threats, and highhandedness. Their mind set is that these are the sixties or seventies or even the eighties where these talented players are immature kids who need to be ruled with an iron fist. Times have changed, change with them or fade away.

If you sort out the PCB we can have a great team.
But as long as you have these clowns in the PCB our team will only get worse. Look at the graph we are going in the wrong direction for years.
